Yesterday lunch (day 11)

when i think in the evening about the happiest moment of the day,
most of the times it has something to do with food or drinks / coffee.
like yesterday, when i just quickly ate a noodle soup.
mmm, i could eat noodle soup every day.
and i'm waiting for the good 'pho bo'-recipe.

Morning coffee on train (sketch #10)

sitting on the train, awake but not yet thinking/worrying,
i think my coffee tastes at its best.

that was for sure the case yesterday.
because i also took some slices of bread + cheese with me.
tasted like milk and honey.
like heavenly breakfast.

and it was just cheese and not-so-fresh-bread.
and the coffee doesn't stay hot. it's rather lukewarm (wat een vreemd woord)
because it's in a plastic cup.

strange.

music monday

tiny happy moment #9

my monday evening was different. normally i try to start the week easy and calm (in comparison with the other evenings), this week it started with a happy concert.
while moving and smiling (because Edward Sharpe & the magnetic zero are so happy and hippy it's funny), i observed the light in the concert hall. quite dark, but at the same time you see a lot of contours  in a rather red haze.
i tried to capture this, but the picture of the sketch is not so clear
(because of the reflection of light / because i'm not an expert in photographing those contrasts).
feel free to use your imagination/look at it closer in real life.

Sunday sketch #8

the first week passed of my
"365 a sketch a day of a tiny happy moment"! hooray hooray!
I'll start numbering them from now on.
and i also sometimes will post the sketch only the day after. no stress.

this week i immediately realized it's not so easy to choose a specific moment in a day to sketch.
sometimes it's just hard to remember one special nice thing, because the rainy day gets in my head.
an other day, like thursday, i can't choose between an evening with a good friend + interesting chat + glass of wine, the morning coffee or the dog i saw (and made me smile).
i tend to focus on tiny tiny things (which is, of course, the goal).

for instance, i had a really nice weekend. and a sunday with a cake party and board games. but the nicest thing was not having to wake up in time,
sleeping sleeping and staying in bed until lunchtime.

bobotie

because it's sunday night, just a really quick sketch that captures the atmosphere...

saturday night dinner with a part of my family.
with really good food (bobotie).
and i'm always happy to see them.

Friday with Toine

Newborn Toine is a month old (christmas child), but already very serious and too cool. We had a lot of fun with him on friday.

wednesday's tiny happy moment

this is the most efficient way to empty my head,
works almost always (and lasts a few minutes).
best moment of yesterday.

21.1, Fog

yesterday wasn't my lucky day.
my laptop didn't start. the weather was miserable. i lost a glove on the train - i better tie them together with strings under my coat, like little children wear their mittens.

but then i received a cheerful message from a friend,
which made me smile, a lot.
* 'so foggy, almost like we're in the mountains. a little holiday feeling.'
and so i gazes outside from my train window with new eyes,
enjoying the marvelous view.

monday 20.1 - slow dinner

tiny happy moment of the day.

returning from a work day, being alone in the house and having no plans at all.
taking your time when deciding on what to cook.
lentils seem like a good plan. and the chicory in the fridge.
let the experimental cooking begin.
some chicory, some honey, onions, garlic, bouillon. a lot of lentils, and pasta.
finish it with grated parmesan.

19.01 / The sound of waves in the night

when it's dark, the sound of the waves are so loud
that it almost seems a big traffic jam.
but at the same time, the sound is so calming.
a little happy moment on sunday, when walking in ostend. and trying to see the sea, and being quite, because the waves demand all the attention. perfect.

a tiny-happy-moment-sketch a day

with this first month of the year
come some new blogging ideas.

Two weeks ago, i was tempted to start with a new list (as i did on my first blog).
but then i remembered that when i made the blog
i was stressed about keeping up with my time schedule (50 things! 150 days!),
i remember that sticking to the list implied
not having time for spontaneous things,
and above all, while i tried to finish up the list,
i never had enough time to put all this experiences and nice memories
into good images.
because there were still 33 challenges to go.

SO i threw away the new 'bucket list idea'
(even though i'm turning thirty this year. perfect timing for a bucket list… ?)
because what i really want for myself this year
is to try and try and try and try picturing the things and images i have in my mind
and capture the atmosphere in a drawing
with my pencils, collages, painting and (who knows) sewing.

thanks to flow magazine and the 365 grateful project
i knew what i want to do this year:

make a sketch a dayabout a tiny happy moment of that day.

So here i go.
